During the holidays, it’s common to overeat. This is because there are many foods and treats in front of us, so it’s hard to resist. However, sometimes this is a problem for many people throughout their lives, no matter the time of year. This can be dangerous for the smile because overeating means the teeth are exposed to harmful bacteria for long periods of time, especially if the foods are sugary and acidic. Tip No. 1: Only eat when you’re hungry. This might seem like a simple tip, but it’s a little more complex than you think. Yes, it’s best to only eat when you’re hungry—don’t eat just because you feel like it. However, sometimes our body wants food when we are sad, bored, or even thirsty, so listen to your body and try to pinpoint when you’re hungry and when you’re not.

Tip No. 2: Eat fat. Fatty foods tend to give you the satisfied feeling when you’re done eating them. This is because they fill you up, and they take longer to digest, which makes you feel full longer. So, please eat fatty foods when you have a meal. It can help you avoid overeating because the foods tell your body it’s no longer hungry.

Tip No. 3: Don’t starve yourself. If you’re extremely hungry and food is placed in front of you, you’re likely to overeat, especially because your hunger makes you think you can eat all of the food on the table. So, keep yourself from feeling that way. You can do so by keeping a granola bar and apple in your bag and eating them when necessary.
